GALE-FORCE winds and pounding rain battered the North-east today.

One school in Aberdeenshire was closed due to flooding and police urged drivers to take care on the roads.

Wind speeds of 60mph were recorded in Inverbervie overnight.

And 50mph gusts hit Aberdeen Airport.

Nearly 7mm of rain fell at Dyce between 5am and 7am today, with 23.8mm falling in the North-east for the whole of January until yesterday.

And in Aboyne, an overnight rainfall of 15mm was recorded.

Monquhitter School, on Thornhill Road, in Cuminestown, was closed due to flooding. …
