The supposed schism between sales and credit is rooted in intuition; it's a credit department's responsibility to sell only to worthy customers while it's the sales department's responsibility to sell, period. It makes sense that the two departments would butt heads and it isn't rare for credit to see sales as too liberal and sales to see credit as too conservative.
