The Downtown art scene is electrifying, but, frankly, it's heaven when my friend Annabel [Mehran] kidnaps me away to her family's house on North Haven, a tiny island off Maine. Before we catch the ferry that will take us there, a stop at Sprague's Lobster in Wiscasset for lobster rolls is a must. Annabel is quite the hostess, planning picnicsher signature sandwich is raisin-and-cranberry-nut bread with cream cheese, turkey, and basiland day outings. We pack up the food and take a rowboat to a speck of uninhabited land like Burnt Island, covered in pine trees and surrounded by freezing-cold water (it doesn't prevent us from diving in, though). Back on the main island, there's a lot of wildliferabbits, what we call "deer-zelles" ...
