On Sunday morning, November 9, fire broke out in the Americas Best Value Inn in Lake Forest, California. Before firefighters even arrived on the scene to fight the six-alarm blaze, though, all the guests were safely out of the burning rooms, thanks to six heroic off-duty Marines.
Adam Reidling, Jedediah Stock, John Mick, Colton Oliver, Thomas O'Brien, and Josh Hernandez were on a three-day pass from Camp Pendleton, and were staying at the hotel. According to the Orange County Register, Oliver said he and two other Marines noticed flames and smoke on the hotel's second story. The six Marines then began banging on doors and windows to alert and evacuate the other hotel residents.
