In the winter, dark skin can take on a dull, greenish hue, while lighter skin can look pasty. But if you use just a hint of self-tanner and bronzer, it's easy to take the edge off.
Start below. If you're going to wear a revealing dress, you'll need to apply self-tanner to your chest, arms, and face. I prefer to apply it to the body first and then match the head and neck to that shade. (It's much easier to correct the color on your face, since the area is smaller.) Choose a gradual formula and apply it over the course of a few days until you get the shade you want. The overall result should be no more than three shades away from your natural tone.
