An unidentified local man defending his home on November 24 was ultimately responsible for the apprehension of Eric Edson, 37, a career criminal in Hero, Vermont, a small suburb of Burlington.
Sgt. Kirk Cooper of the Vermont state police indicated on WCAX Channel 3 that the homeowner shot at Edson and then identified the thief from a photo lineup. Edson had more than three dozen felony convictions for burglaries and thefts, keeping him behind bars for most of his adult life.
The state police reported the homeowner's actions "made catching Edson all too easy," and indicated that no charges would be filed against him. Police say Edson broke into two homes in North Hero on that November night to commit burglaries. It was in the second home where our hero caught him red-handed, confronted him, and fired two shots at him as he fled. Police arrested Edson less than 20 hours later.
