THOSE anglers visiting the fisheries open over the festive period have enjoyed great sport and even excellent weather.

It was another good week at Jubilee Lakes with Black and olive Zonkers accounting for good numbers of trout although Cat's Whisker, green and black Fritz and Bloodworm have also taken their share of the fish.

Seven double-figure fish were brought to the net with Hebburn angler Rodney Pattinson landing the heaviest at 21lb 14oz. James Stephenson had one of 20lb 6oz while Gareth Black from Whickham took a rainbow of 17lb 14oz.

Also among the doubles were 12-year-old Lewis Hirst from Staindrop, who took a 15lb 4oz rainbow on his first visit to Jubilee Peter Loates from Consett (13lb 8oz), Bill Mooney from Darlington (11lb 13oz) and Colin Stoddart from Consett (10lb).

There were also quality doubles landed at Jubilee in the run-up to Christmas. Richard Campbell from Newton Aycliffe took a well-conditioned rainbow of 23lb, Marcus Wood from Spennymoor took one of19lb 9oz, John Wildon from Middlesbrough had a fish of 16lb 2oz and Simon Smith from Skelton had a fine brace of 13lb 13oz and 1lb 14oz. Jubilee will be closed today then open tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday after which the fishery will be closed until the last weekend in January. Anglers doubtful about times should check the fishery's website (www.jubileelakes.com) or phone (01388) 772611.
