(From The Journal)
HAYLEY Turner remains as grounded as ever despite receiving a rapturous reception for her achievement in becoming the first female jockey to reach 100 winners in the British calendar year, writes TOM PEACOCK.
Turner's transition from joint champion apprentice in 2005 to one of the most sought-after riders of either sex has provided untold benefit to the sport and she was presented with flowers and champagne at Lingfield yesterday.
It was coming only hours after she notched the landmark at Wolverhampton's evening meeting on Tuesday aboard Mullitovermaurice.
There was no winner 101 from three rides on the Surrey Polytrack, the only meeting to go ahead in Britain with cold weather but providing little equine interest .
Photogenic and always of a sunny disposition, Turner was in great demand from mobile phone snappers, the public and the media. "Everyone has been coming up to me and saying well done and I am quite surprised by the amount of messages I have received," she said.
"I'm pleased to have got it out of the way yesterday so it was not hanging over me today. People have been really supportive and it's good for racing, I suppose."
