THE London markets ended the year on a positive note, with the leading index gaining 41 points in the final trading session to close at 4434.
GlaxoSmithKline moved ahead adding 25.5p to end on 1284.5p.
Earlier in the week the group confirmed it had extended its tender offer to acquire Genelabs Technologies, the American biopharmaceuticals and diagnostics company until January 6.
GSK entered into an agreement with Genelabs in November last year to acquire the company for approximately EUR57 million through a tender offer of EUR1.30 per share.
