Great North Museum
April will see the opening of the Great North Museum in Newcastle - a state-of-the-art showcase for our historic treasures.
The pounds 26m renovation of the Hancock Museum will house internationally-important collections alongside the Hancock's original natural history and archaeological treasures, plus those of the Museum of Antiquities and Newcastle University's Shefton (Greek) Museum.
Highlights of the flagship museum will include: Hadrian's Wall Gallery: with a large-scale interactive model of the Roman frontier; and the Hadrian Inscription stone - the only archaeological object recording the fact it was the Emperor who commissioned the Wall.
Ancient Greeks Gallery: including a 7th Century BC Corinthian helmet.
