(From The Journal)
HOPES that a threatened Northumberland food factory would be saved have been realised - bringing an extra special Christmas present for its near-200 workers.
The future of the Cheviot Foods plant in Amble was thrown into doubt in September when rising raw material and fuel costs saw it go into administration.
The Journal revealed in October that administrator Vantis Business Recovery Services was hopeful of selling the factory - Amble's biggest employer and a mainstay of the local economy for years - to new owners.
Now a deal has been struck with Country Chef Ltd, one of the UK's market leaders in potato products, to buy the plant and safeguard its jobs.
Geoff Rowley, client partner and administrator at Vantis, said: "On December 23, contracts were exchanged for the sale of the business and assets of Cheviot Foods Ltd with a company forming part of the Country Chef group, which is based in Scunthorpe and operates in the value-added potato product sector.
"The sale is scheduled to complete on Friday, January 9.
