A MAN assaulted his mother's partner with a baton after she returned home with broken ribs and a punctured lung, Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday.

Joseph Hardie, 31, admitted assaulting the man at 24 Grampian View, Aviemore, by repeatedly punching him on the head and repeatedly striking him on the head and body with the baton to his injury.

He appeared in court yesterday for sentencing, when Sheriff Andrew Berry ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work for the community.
