RANGPUR, Jan 1 Asia Pulse - Potato cultivation may not be achieved in 16 northern Bangladesh areas, including the Rangpur-Dinajpur region, due to abnormal price hikes of fertilizer and other agri-chemicals this season.
Farmers said they achieved bumper production last season due to the easy availability of fertilizers at reasonable prices. But this season the imported fertilizers DAP and DOP are being sold at inflated prices in the local markets, which are beyond the purchasing capacity of the local growers.
Farmers said at present a sack of DAP fertilizer was being sold at Tk 3,600 (US$52) against the previous years price of Tk 1,800, DOP fertilizer was being sold at Tk 2,200 as against the previous price of Tk 1,500, and a sack of urea ...
