KUANTAN: Wong Poh Yee, 15, hardly speaks the national language as most of her friends and family converse in Mandarin and Cantonese.

Due to her difficulty to communicate in other languages, she would only mix with her Chinese friends at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Jaya near Maran.

However, she managed to overcome the language barrier during a three-day seminar on unity here yesterday.

"I'm so happy because I made many Malay and Indian friends here," said the second of five siblings.

With the help of her friends, she is now more confident in using the national language when talking to others.
