Valerie Roth Roubos has composed different "sound stories" that we can use With our beginners in a variety of ways. The composer writes, "Everyone loves a good story. Stories can take us instantly to another place or time--a faraway country, the old West where Indian drums call to each other, or a tropical forest where monkeys are the clowns of the jungle. Music can tell stories, too. The titles and opening descriptions start the stories, but you can finish them with you imagination and the music you create."
This supplementary book can be a jumping off point for teachers looking for another way to expand their students' musical imagination. When I tested out the book this summer with my students, I introduced the story as the composer suggested and asked my students questions that would carry us ...
