Grand Staff Capers--A Musical Voyage Through the Lines and Spaces is designed to inspire creativity in the elementary-level student and is, itself, full of creative ideas. The book is a companion to the Robert Pace keyboard series, but would be an excellent supplement to any piano method. Teachers who are hesitant about introducing improvisation or composition to their students will find step-by-step guidance here. The activities in this book lend themselves equally well to individual or group lessons.
The six short, lively pieces in this book are arranged in order of difficulty. Each piece introduces a musical concept or specific composition technique, such as sequence patterns or question-and-answer phrases. Students are then given an opportunity to apply these elements using the manuscript page adjacent to each piece to create a new composition.
