Therapy based on Buddhist meditation techniques could be as effective as anti-depressants, say Westcountry researchers.
The study, led by Professor Willem Kuyken at the Mood Disorders Centre, University of Exeter, found that Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) could be a viable alternative to prescription drugs for long-term depression sufferers.
MBCT targets negative thinking and helps people vulnerable to recurring depression to stop depressed moods from spiralling out of control.
