Last April, three-year-old Lazar Ognjenovic's grandfather was walking him in his stroller along the shore of Lake Michigan at Chicago's Belmont Harbor when a strong gust of wind blew both Lazar and the stroller into the lake.
Jack Otto, the father of Chicago firefighter Brian Otto, related the story to The Villages Daily Sun near his home in Florida: "The grandfather was hollering. And someone called 911."
The young Mr. Otto, who is an air-sea rescue diver, was with a helicopter crew fueling the aircraft when the emergency call reached them. "They were at Midway Airport getting gas," related the elder Otto. "So they were there in a matter of minutes instead of having to get the helicopter out of the hangar." When the helicopter reached the scene, Brian Otto and fellow diver Bill Davis dove into frigid Lake Michigan.
