TAIPEI, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - Taiwwan's Council of Agriculture (COA) held an activity at the Dongshan Farmers' Association in Tainan County Saturday to promote Taiwan oranges, with Vice President Vincent Siew's wife, Susan Chu, taking part in the event.
Chu praised Taiwan oranges as being unique and very sweet, saying that she has recommended the locally grown fruit to many of her friends.
Also attending the event was Chen Wen-te, head of the COA's Agriculture and Food Agency, who said that Taiwan oranges are grown on nearly 9,700 hectares of land around the country, with annual production exceeding 200,000 tons.
Chen said that although the quality of Taiwan oranges is quite high, the price of the fruits, which is harvested between November and February or March, is prone to collapse.
