The new donations came after a Herald-Tribune story revealed that the number of people who need help is way up this year, and resources to help them are way down.

"People were saying they were bringing turkeys, or asking where to deliver them," said Glenda Leonard, the organization's director of development. "And those that don't quite have the finances to help were asking how they could volunteer their time," she added.

Although donations are still lower than ever, Leonard said she thinks people may include donation purchases in their regular shopping this weekend.
