Today's playing field in academic leadership disadvantages women. They face a chilly climate, fewer resources and opportunities, and conscious or unconscious gender bias, including sexual harassment.
Despite the pervasive male work climate, the number of women presidents of colleges and universities has increased steadily over the past decades, from 10% in 1986 to 11.8% in 1990 and 23% in 2007.
