There may be a shortage of college administrators in the future, warns a recent report from the American Council on Education.
The report cites a lack of young, permanent faculty who have the time and opportunity to advance up the administrative career ladder. ACE notes three reasons for this shortage: an aging professoriate, students entering the profession later in life and rising numbers of part-time and non-tenure track faculty. Plus, many women and men leave academia to care for young children.
