Proenza Schouler reveals its first handbag collection.
New York had a sneak peek at the very first Proenza Schouler handbag collection, PS1, without even realizing it. While finalizing their satchels' designs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez secretly enlisted a handful of close female friends to take them on test runs around town. "People asked, 'What's that bag?'" says Hernandez. "And the girls had to say, 'Oh, nothing. I just found it' or 'It's vintage'!"
But now the cat's out of the bag (excuse the expression), and the collection hits stores like Barneys and Kirna Zabete this month, just before the launch of Proenza Schouler's expanded shoe line. Three styles--a large or small bag and a clutch--come in materials from chocolate leather to mustard suede to white python (croc is available by special order).
