A sharp-eared and armed resident of an apartment complex in Bloomington, Illinois, heard loud noises on September 30. According to police spokesman Duane Moss, the resident correctly judged the sounds to be someone kicking in a door to a downstairs apartment.
Investigating the disturbance, the man found that someone had kicked in not one, but two doors, an entrance into the building itself and a door to one of the lower-level units, where the occupants were not home.
