On the morning of September 4, DeShan Fishel dropped off her child at school in Dawson County, Georgia, and started back home. She was driving along behind Dawson County school bus No. 339 as the bus stopped to pick up passengers, not far from Black's Mill Elementary School in Dawsonville. It was then that she saw a small child, who was about to board the bus, get hit by a vehicle that simply kept on going.
"He didn't slow down, he made no attempt to slow down. He hit one of the kids," Fishel told the Dawson News & Advertiser during a press conference held at a local park that same afternoon. "He just sped away; he kept on going."
Becoming extremely upset with the hit-and-run driver's callousness, Fishel turned around and pursued the white Jeep Cherokee. "All I could think about was that little boy, hurt and rolling in the road," she explained.
The woman called 911 and kept in contact with Dawson's emergency services while keeping the fleeing Jeep Cherokee in sight. When the vehicle pulled off the roadway onto a grassy field, Fishel pulled her car behind the Jeep, got out of her car, and bravely walked over to the driver. "I told ...
