Barack Obama aspires to run the largest enterprise on the face of the Earth--the U.S. government. From the beginning of his campaign for president, he deliberately positioned himself as a messianic figure, transcending race, and above petty partisanship on issues. The Obama campaign adopted the same mass-manipulation technique--swooning crowds chanting "yes we can"--that worked so well for his friend Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick during Patrick's 2006 gubernatorial campaign.
