INDIAN GOVT SCRAPS DUTY ON JET FUEL, EXPORT LEVY ON STEEL.
NEW DELHI, Nov 3 Asia Pulse - The Indian Government on Friday abolished the five per cent customs duty on jet fuel and export duty on certain iron and steel items in order to give relief to the financially-stressed aviation industry and the iron and steel sector respectively.
It also replaced the 15 per cent ad valorem export duty on fines of iron ore with specific duty of Rs 200 (US$4) per tonne, while the rate on iron ore lumps will remain unchanged.
In a measure aimed at protecting domestic ferro-molybdenum and ferro-vanadium industry, the government withdrew full exemption from basic custom duty and levied a 5 per cent duty instead.
