TAIPEI, Nov. 3 Asia Pulse - Taiwan and China have plenty of room for cooperation in the semiconductor industry, a Taiwan semiconductor tycoon said Saturday, suggesting that China focus on integrated circuit design while contracting wafer production to Taiwan.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) Chairman Morris Chang told a company event that with its enormous domestic market, China should concentrate its efforts on the development of its IC design industry.
He suggested that the Chinese government center on a few IC design companies and provide them with support because China needs larger-scale companies in the field.
He also recommended that China contract Taiwan to manufacture its chip designs, as Taiwan has specialized in wafer production for years.
