PLANNERS have called time on hopes of reopening a Northumberland village's only pub by giving the green light for its demolition and redevelopment.
The Willows in Widdrington Station near Morpeth has stood empty and deteriorating since its owners closed the doors three years ago, claiming it was not attracting enough customers. A previous bid to flatten the pub and build homes on the site was rejected by councillors - a decision upheld on appeal by a Government planning inspector.
Last year inspector Richard McCoy said it was reasonable to expect a place the size of Widdrington Station to have its own pub, and the loss of the facility would harm the village's role as a local service centre. But now Castle Morpeth councillors have approved a new outline bid to ...
