(From The Journal)
TWO drivers were in hospital with serious injuries yesterday following a four-vehicle collision which left a Northumberland road blocked for more than six hours.
The smash happened on a long, straight stretch of the A197 between Ashington and Pegswood at about 10.20pm on Thursday.
It involved a collision between a BMW, Citroen Saxo, Honda Civic and Vauxhall Corsa between the junctions for Longhirst to the north and Sheepwash to the south.
Fire crews from Ashington, Morpeth and Blyth used cutting gear to release five casualties from the wreckage of the vehicles.
