Many doctors unaware of CAM use in arthritis: ask about it.(Clinical Rounds)
BALTIMORE -- More than half of patients with arthritis report using complementary and alternative medicines, according to results of a cross-sectional study presented at the annual meeting of the American Geriatrics Society.
In the survey of 111 non-Hispanic white and 102 Hispanic arthritis patients treated in primary care settings, about 85% of patients reported having ever used complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. The survey involved 65- to 84-year-old patients in six university outpatient clinics in Albuquerque.
