Obsession is part of human nature. But new technology, celebrity worship, and a culture of addiction could be turning us into stalkers.

What I lack in hobbies and sports, I more than make up for in obsessions. I don't ski, paint, or play chess. When I hit a tennis ball, I have no say over its final destination. But name a topic I know a thing or two about and I can point to some period of time--a few days, a month, a handful of crazed, tortured years--when I thought of little else. That encyclopedic knowledge of spiders? Blame it on a childhood obsession with Charlotte's Web. That entirely-too-comprehensive clearinghouse of trivia ...
