* For two days in June, participants in the American Council on Education's Office of Women in Higher Education (OWHE) Summit for Women Presidents met in Milwaukee, developing and sharing strategies to support women at or approaching the top.

OWHE president Dr. Donna Burns Phillips led the conference, attended by top women leading colleges and universities: the past, present and future presidents.

On the second afternoon they broke into groups to discuss ways to translate the suggested strategies into practice. Discussion in one breakout group focused on ways to institutionalize connections.

A two-day summit is only a taste of the networking women need from day to day. It's lonely at the top. The higher you get, the harder it is to find peers and elders. Many promising careers stall due to lack of knowledge and skills that come through connecting with other women.

Institutionalize mentoring for new presidents
