Government agencies are moving beyond athletics departments to check for Title IX compliance in the areas of science and engineering. After a 2004 study by the federal General Accounting Office, the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation and NASA are doing Title IX compliance reviews at a handful of U.S. schools.
Supporters of Title IX say such reviews could create many more opportunities for women in science.
