You missed the point in "When to Buy Organic" (Up Front, September 2008) in saying that "it makes sense to focus on buying organic versions of produce that is most likely to harbor pesticide residues when grown conventionally." What about the pesticide residues fed into the ground water, rivers, and oceans, to say nothing of farm workers? I am often frustrated by what seems to be a consumerist point of view, narrowly assessing the value of a product mostly in terms of meeting the consumer's most apparent needs.
