Both women and men take a financial hit by getting married, according to a paper to be published in the Journal of Human Resources early next year.
Author David Loughran said that while married men's salaries show about 2% less growth than their single counterparts over time, women take the hit more immediately. A woman's wage falls 2-4% in the year she gets married, compared with that of a single woman.
