Young bookworms are ploughing through the pages of their favourite stories as part of a summer reading competition.

Thousands of children across Leicestershire will take part in the Team Read challenge throughout the holiday period.

The challenge aims to get youngsters reading while they are off school, through a variety of activities ranging from story-telling sessions and craft shops to drop-in computer activities featuring flight simulators and CSI-style crime-solving games.

Children are encouraged to read six books over the holiday and win bronze, silver and gold medals as they work their way through the Team …
