David Wood celebrated his recall to the Gloucestershire team by recording only the second ace of his distinguished career at his home club Chipping Sodbury this week.
Wood, aged 45, holed a seven-iron at the 170-yard sixth hole. It was only the plus-one handicapper's second - the first came during the South West Counties strokeplay championship at Royal North Devon a decade ago.
Gloucestershire are bidding to win the matchplay crown for the fourth year in succession under the leadership of Tim Clink (Lilley Brook).
And Wood, who opted out of county golf in 2004 and spent two years in Australia, now relishes the prospect of playing for the county again.
He finished seventh in the county championship and immediately made himself available to return to the county team he first graced in 1984.
