Most couples would balk at the thought of cycling 1,000 miles together on a tandem.
But this week a deaf man who is going blind is putting his life in his wife's hands as they cycle the length of Britain.
Father of three Bob Nolan, 50, has been deaf since birth and because of Usher's Syndrome is losing his sight, so can only see through a pinpoint in his right eye.
The condition has meant he has not ridden a bike for 25 years, until now, when he, his profoundly deaf wife Louise and their deaf friends Abbie and Martin Willis decided to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise GBP30,000 for the charity DeafBlind Scotland.
Mr Nolan admits the journey is a huge leap of faith as he is unable to see most things and the couple communicate via a mirror for lip-reading.
