(From Western Daily Press)
Orange announced yesterday it is to axe 450 jobs with most of the cuts likely to come at its Bristol headquarters.
But the telecoms giant said it was creating 500 new customer service jobs in a bid to become "the best-loved telecommunications company in Britain".
Orange said in a statement there would be up to 450 redundancies at its administration, management and support functions.
While it did not confirm sites where staff would be laid off, it is expected Bristol will be hard hit because those departments have big teams at sites in Almondsbury and Aztec West.
The company said it was making the cuts to "increase customer focus, remove duplication and improve responsiveness and efficiency".
It is the third major reorganisation at Orange in six years, during which more than 3,000 UK workers have lost their jobs.
