Lib Dem MEP Graham Watson, with the adroitness so typical of a politician, chooses to miss the point of Mr Wells' letter (Your Say, May 21).
Firstly, the UK has not had a referendum on UK membership of the EU despite Mr Watson's erroneous claim to the contrary. This is typical of Lib Dem claims as regards matters EU; anything goes to further their objective of further integration.
Secondly, Mr Watson was nominated and it was his Liberal Democrat party that was elected under the rules of the EU - party, not person. Neither Mr Watson nor his party have been subject to either a personal election nor a referendum in the UK on the EU.
Stick to the point as made by a member of the electorate, Mr Watson, and please let us have less of your fanatical pro-EU stance.
