Because most working pianists are involved with either collaborative piano or teaching, this panel presented information concerning the skills needed to prepare students for a career in the various forms of collaboration. The areas addressed in the panel were jazz, choral accompanying, church music and vocal/opera collaborations, moderated by Marianne Bryan.
Tony Caramia: Specific skills are needed for a person to be a collaborator in the jazz world. Among them is a thorough knowledge of standard songs, such as those by Gershwin, Kern and Cole Porter and from sources like Broadway, movies and popular music.
