Five men planned a robbery in Ocala, Florida. Three were to be accomplices, and two were to carry out the deed. At 2:30 a.m. on July 23, the two men who were to physically commit the robbery broke in to Roger Garrison's home, setting Garrison's bulldog to barking. Garrison knew someone was there because, as he told Ocala.com, "When Gus barks, somebody is here." He walked into his living room, where his brother Martin was sleeping on the couch, and he saw "two men dressed in black with their faces covered."
The robbers saw Roger Garrison as well and told him to get down on the floor. That's when Martin Garrison got involved. He grabbed a pistol that he kept under the couch and opened fire on a robber who pointed a pistol at him. He shot three times, and both robbers fled.
