Google beats Chrome into shape

Google has launched the beta version of its Chrome open source browser.

Acknowledging the work of open source projects which led to the creation of Google Chrome, Linus Upson, director of engineering at Google, said: "We realise that we couldn't have created Google Chrome on our own.

"It was built on other open source projects, which are making significant contributions to browser technology and have helped to spur competition and innovation."

Chrome is made up of the "best bits" of Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox, among other browsers.
