A rising DJ adds a scarf-tied bag to her hit list.
Legend has it that Babe Paley, who lived on the tony Upper East Side, once casually tied a scarf on her bag and launched a fashion trend overnight. It's since traveled to a hipper Zip Code and onto NYU student and DJ Harley Viera-Newton. "I love this combination--it's such a classic, timeless look," she says. "The scarf adds a soft, personal touch to the bag's simple structure. It works with whatever I normally wear [usually lots of vintage and Tom Binns jewelry] and can change the whole look." Recently in Paris playing bass and singing backup with the band Lissy Trullie at the Jalouse Rocks Paris Festival, Viera-Newton also creates playlists inspired by the season's color palettes for Dior Beauty and scours Little Italy's No. 6 and flea markets on London's Portobello Road. "I like to contrast the new with the traditional," Viera-Newton says. "I love learning the history behind a piece of clothing or trend. When something's well worn or loved, you can definitely feel it."
