Girls measure up to boys in math in every grade from 2nd to 11th, according to a study of standardized test scores for more than 7.2 million students.
The researchers found no difference in the math scores of girls versus boys, even in high school--where many think girls lag behind in math. "Both parents and teachers continue to hold the stereotype that boys are better than girls" at math, said Dr. Janet Hyde, lead author of the study and researcher at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
