Organizers of the playground project at Norma Lloyd Park, 2305 13th Ave. E. in Bradenton, hoped the turnout would reach triple digits.

So even they were amazed by the diverse swarm of people so happy to help: Home Depot workers who came on their day off, elected officials and government employees, and east Bradenton residents delighted to see their neighborhood get some much-needed attention.

"I did not expect this many people," nearby resident Simone Peterson said. "It shows how much we care about the community."
