Turkmenistan this year is exporting 58 BCM/y - 50 BCM/y to Russia and 8 BCM/y to Iran. Both Russia and Iran have asked for bigger volume. But an independent APS source says that, with domestic requirements this year averaging 15 BCM and the country unable to produce more than 73 BCM, Ashgabat will limit exports to the figures mentioned above.
TurkmenGaz Oil and Gas Institute Director Makhtumguly Khydyrov says Ashgabat is to boost gas output to 130 BCM/y before 2020, which would require massive foreign investment. This will enable Ashgabat to raise exports to more than 110 BCM/y.
Turkmen gas exports, which peaked at 75.5 BCM (62.4m tons of oil equivalent) in 1989 and fell to a negligible volume in 1998 but rose to 37.2 BCM in 2001....
