Russian gas producer Gazprom has not given up hope on downstream expansion in Europe, despite a tense relationship between Russia and the west.
Gazprom wants to increase its 5.26pc stake in east German gas distributor VNG, Gazprom chief Alexei Miller said in Leipzig last week. It may get its chance after 1 January next year, when 12 eastern German municipalities will be allowed to sell their combined 25.79pc stake in VNG.
