TASHKENT, Oct 1 Asia Pulse - GM Uzbekistan, an Uzbek-US joint venture for production of cars, will start serial production of Lacetti cars in November, Prime Tass reported on Monday quoting management of the Uzavtoprom joint-stock company, which unites enterprises of car industry of Uzbekistan.
Uzavtoprom representative said that the project on launch of serial production of Lacetti will be completed soon. The mounting of assembly line is completed and commissioning of the line is underway. The source said the serial production of the car will be launched in November 2008.
GM Uzbekistan, former UzDaewoo Auto, and General Motors Daewoo and Technology (GM DAT) signed an agreement on supply of machinery and equipment for organization of serial production of Lacetti cars for US$41.5 million.
In line with the feasibility study, the cost of project is US$47.7 million and the capacity of the new line will be 30,000 cars per year, of which 5,000 will be exported.
The project is financed due to interest-free loan of Uzavtosanoat for US$47.7 million, issued to GM Uzbekistan for six years.
